For the 6th consecutive year Westermo was a key sponsor of the 2017 Rail Staff Awards, the annual event which recognises the people and work performed within the UK rail industry. Westermo sponsored the Signalling and Telecommunications Team/Person of the Year award. This aims to highlight the difficult and challenging work of the rail industry’s signalling and telecommunications specialists.
Westermo UK rail sales manager Phil Mounter presented the 2017 award to Mark Allsop from Network Rail, who accepted the honour on behalf of the IP Signalling Northern LNE Construction Team. The IP Signalling Team at Works Delivery Special Projects has worked exclusively on IP Signalling Northern projects for the past four years, including those at North Lincolnshire, Ferriby, Brigg, South Kirkby and, most recently, re-signalling between Huddersfield and Bradford.
“Signalling and telecommunications engineers play a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of the UK rail network,” said Phil Mounter. “As a company heavily involved in providing technology for digital rail projects, Westermo is delighted to recognise the work performed by these engineers, especially the award winners, IP Signalling Northern LNE Construction Team.”
The awards ceremony was held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, on the 7th October in front of a 1,000-strong audience. Runners-up in the Signalling and Telecommunications category were Network Rail’s Works Delivery Signalling Scotland Route and the Siemens Rail Automation Test team from Manchester.
