Westermo outlines cybersecurity measures to Rail Industry Association

Westermo's Ray Lock describing ways of enhancing cyber security.

Westermo is to describe ways of enhancing cyber security to the Signalling & Telecommunications Technical Interest Group of the Railway Industry Association (RIA). As part of a webinar on the 10th September 2020, Ray Lock, Global Director of Network Applications at Westermo will explain how to increase security of trackside data communication networks, focusing on cyber security and the protection of rail operational control and signalling telecommunications systems. The presentation will also discuss how the industry can manage the transition from legacy to IP networks, identifying threats and appropriate counter measures, as well as look at how other industries approach cyber security and what lessons the rail industry can learn.

“With the deployment of IP networks for trackside data communications, there is increasing need for the rail industry to ensure the systems delivering railway services have appropriate and proportionate cyber security risk management through their lifecycle,” explained Lock.
“As a provider of data communications technology for rail networks, Westermo has identified both network vulnerabilities and opportunities to limit exposure. This webinar will outline the necessary procedures and measures rail operators need to consider.”
