Westermo launches IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 Redundancy Box

Zero packet loss for critical substation communication

In modern substations, reliable and continuous communication is essential for protection, control, and monitoring systems. Many devices, especially legacy or cost-sensitive ones, are Single Attached Nodes (SANs), meaning they only have one network interface and can not natively support redundancy protocols like HSR (High-availability Seamless Redundancy) or PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol).

A Redundancy Box solves this by acting as a bridge between these SANs and redundant network architectures.

Introducing the Lynx-RB-FT3G-MV

The Lynx Redundancy Box is a compact, high-performance 3-port device engineered for Substation Automation. It is purpose-built to deliver zero packet loss and seamless failover in mission-critical environments, ensuring uninterrupted communication in substations and other industrial applications.

The IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards define the requirements and test levels for networking devices in these applications. The Lynx Redundancy Box meets or exceeds all test levels for Class 2 fulfilment, which do not allow the loss of a single transmission package, even during the highest EMI bursts. The RedBox has also attained KEMA type test gold certification, ensuring zero downtime, communication losses, delays or errors.

With the increasing digitalization of substations and the critical nature of real-time data, the Lynx SA RedBox provides a future-proof solution for achieving zero-loss, high-availability networking. Engineered and manufactured in Sweden, it combines quality, reliability, and flexibility in a compact, standalone form factor.
