Next-Generation Wi-Fi Technology for Rail Applications

The new Ibex series leverages the latest Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) standard, enabling unprecedented performance for demanding rail applications.

Ibex-1520 is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 access point supporting 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, featuring 2x2 MU-MIMO, Multi-Link Operation (MLO), and support for up to 512 clients per radio. It is an ideal choice for onboard systems requiring reliable and secure wireless connectivity with predictable performance.

For even more demanding environments, Ibex-3520 delivers tri-band Wi-Fi 7, operating simultaneously on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz. With 2x2 MU-MIMO, Multi-Link Operation with up to 320 MHz channel bandwidth, and advanced 4096-QAM modulation, it is designed for high-density passenger environments and data-intensive applications, such as onboard passenger Wi-Fi and real-time video systems. It includes Bluetooth 5.2 and GNSS support, enabling precise location data and supporting advanced rail applications where positioning and system awareness are critical.

Built for Harsh Onboard Environments

The Ibex-1520 and Ibex-3520 are engineered specifically for railway use and are fully certified to EN 50155 (electrical safety) and EN 45545-2 (fire protection). They are designed to operate reliably under constant vibration, humidity, temperature variations, and electromagnetic interference.

To ensure long-term durability, the devices feature a GORE-TEX® membrane that prevents internal condensation, along with high-level isolation to protect against over-voltage and electrical surges. Their rugged metal housing with IP66 protection, support for temperatures from -40°C to +70°C, and robust M12 connectors make them well suited for demanding onboard installations.

Secure, Reliable, and Ready for Onboard Rail

Security is at the core of the Ibex series. Both access points support WPA2/WPA3, 802.1X authentication with RadSec, persistent security logging, and regular security updates. Powered by IbexOS, Westermo’s secure and continuously maintained operating system, the devices are designed for stable, long-term operation in rail networks, where reliability and cybersecurity are non-negotiable.

Designed for Rail Applications, Today and Tomorrow

The Ibex-1520 and Ibex-3520 are ideally suited for applications such as passenger Wi-Fi, remote diagnostics and maintenance, data offloading, and seamless integration into Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS). Their compact design simplifies installation in space-constrained environments and contributes to low lifecycle costs. Both products have undergone extensive testing to meet EMC, safety, and railway-specific standards, ensuring dependable performance throughout the lifetime of the train.

With the launch of Ibex-1520 and Ibex-3520, we bring Wi-Fi 7 performance to rail - without compromising on ruggedness, security, or reliability.
