SNMPv3 security

Did you know that SNMPv3 can be used to securely control the access to a network switch?

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a monitoring protocol for devices in IP networks. However, SNMP version 1 and 2 provides no functionality for securing the monitor communication which can pose a security risk in some applications. All WeOS devices support SNMP version 3, which has a range of security features. SNMPv3 can authenticate the SNMP user as well as limit the access to information within the switch. To further secure the SNMP traffic, the communication can be encrypted with the strong AES crypto when it is sent across the network. With SNMP version 3 in place, the important switch monitoring traffic is secured. This will help minimize the risk of accidental information leakage and unwanted access to vital network information.
