At the centre of Denmark's green transition, Kenneth Olsen, Country Manager Westermo Denmark, shares his insights into the evolving energy landscape. He also shares customer expectations, and how Westermo contributes to a sustainable future.
In the energy sector, renewable energy sources and smart grid technologies are transforming the landscape. The need for sustainable solutions is growing along with the importance of digitalization to enhance energy efficiency and reliability. From what suppliers you have, to how the devices affect energy use in the final solution, sustainability is at the core of customer dialogue today.
“Sustainability has become a fundamental factor,” Kenneth says. “One of the first questions you'll get is, ‘What do you do in terms of sustainable solutions in production?’ If you don't do enough, you can be denied from participating in a project.”
Kenneth has observed that customers, even smaller ones, increasingly view ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance as a deal-breaker.
“More and more customers evaluate suppliers based on ESG performance,” he says, highlighting a significant shift in market expectations.
Westermo’s reputation for securing mission-critical networks aligns well with the Danish energy sector’s sustainability and resilience goals
“We have a good fit and there are golden opportunities,” says Kenneth.
Long warranties and robust products contribute to a longer lifespan, supporting customers’ long-term sustainability and operational goals.
“This is a key reason why customers choose us,” Kenneth says, emphasizing the importance of lifecycle support.
In the energy sector, the green transition is driving innovation and development in sustainability. Kenneth is particularly excited about innovations like Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), as well as Westermo’s own efforts in sustainable production and low-energy-demanding products.
“We always keep sustainability in focus, no matter the size of the customer or project,” he says.
Westermo's focus on sustainability and internal collaboration drive the company's progress. The company's first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) proves Westermo’s commitment to sustainability through transparency and accountability. By providing detailed information on the lifecycle impact of its products, Westermo aims to set a standard for sustainable practices within the industry and inspire others to do the same.
"ESG will continue to be a key strategic advantage for Westermo in the future." he says. “I believe we have an advantage, and the feedback is always positive.”
As Denmark continues its green transition, Kenneth sees Westermo playing a strong role through its focus on sustainable technologies and solutions.
"By prioritizing energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and supporting the transition to renewable energy sources, Westermo aims to contribute to a more sustainable future. Always keeping the customer’s needs in mind." concludes Kenneth.
Climate action is important to us. By aligning our targets with the Paris Agreement, we are contributing to a better future for all.
Our dedication to driving the shift towards a circular economy through robust network solutions is reflected in every aspect of our operations.
The transition to a fossil-free society must be a just transition. How we conduct our business contributes to people's and the planet's wellbeing.
